Wedding Music

What you need to know about the music at a church service:

Processional

This is the music which is played as the bride walks down the aisle. This is usually agreed with the Organist.
eg Bridal March (Lohengrin) by Wagner, Trumpet Tune by Purcell

Recessional

This is the music which is played when the bride and groom depart the church. This is usually agreed with the Organist.
eg Grand March from Aida, Toccata in F minor from Fifth Symphony by Widor, Fantasia in G minor, Wedding March by Mendelssohn

Processional or Recessional Music

These pieces are all suitable as processional or recessional music.
eg Arrival of the Queen of Sheba by Handel, Toccata & Fugue by J.S. Bach, Trumpet Voluntary by Jeremiah Clarke, Fireworks Music by Handel, Water Music by Handel, Trumpet Voluntary by Charpentier

Signing of the Registry Music

Some couples will also pick which music they wish the organist to play whilst they sign the marriage certificate. Alternatively you may wish to ask someone to sing or play a musical instrument at this point (with the Minister's agreement).
eg Ave Maria by Schubert, Ave Maria by Bach / Gounod

CDs of Wedding Music

We recommend the "Unforgettable Classics - Wedding Classics" CD as it
has a variety of popular wedding music for you to choose from.

Alternative options which have a mix of hymns and other music include "A
Bride's Guide to Wedding Music" or "The Wedding Music Guide".

First Dance

The first dance is traditionally a waltz and usually starts with the couple who are then joined by the bridal party (normally the father of the bride will dance with the groom's mother, the mother of the bride will dance with the groom's father, the best man will dance with the chief bridesmaid and ushers will dance with the bridesmaids).

If you'd like to learn to improve your dancing skills for the all-important first dance, why not buy a combined DVD & CD pack which will show you all the moves. You can choose 'Learn to dance at weddings - Latin American' or 'Learn to dance at weddings - Ballroom', Find out more or buy

Reception Music

Trying to find music which suits guests of all ages can be tricky, but these albums are likely to have broad appeal: Swing When You're Winning by Robbie William, Music to watch girls by Volumes 1,2 & 3, The Great American Songbook (by Rod Stewart - any volume will do!), Jamie Cullum or The Wedding Jazz Album: First Dances. All of these albums are available at 101cd.com

Confetti and Celebrations Plus also sell some wedding music CDs.
