Wedding Hymns

In this page you'll find the wording for some popular wedding hymns as well as some information to help you if you're choosing hymns for your wedding. Remember,

  • Most church weddings have two hymns during the service.
  • Choosing your hymns means not only choosing the words but also choosing which tune the words are set to. Confirm the tune with your organist.
  • Whilst many couples pick their favourite hymns, try to make sure that you pick hymns which people will recognise.
  • Be aware of copyright issues. When hymns are sung there are no copyright issues, but when the words are printed (such as on an Order of Service) there could be a copyright issue - copyright has usually expired on older hymns. If the copyright has not expired and you wish to print the text you will need the permission of the copyright holder, which is likely to be a nominal fee.

    CDs of Wedding Hymns

If you're having a church ceremony we recommend buying 'Love Divine (The Essential Hymns Collection)' which has 24 popular wedding hymns. A smaller selection of hymns, but also including other wedding music, can be found in 'A Bride's Guide to Wedding Music'. Find out more or buy

For a full listing of hymns look at the new church hymnary (known as CH4) which was printed in 2005. It's available as either the words only version or with the melodies. Find out more or buy

    Hymn Index

If you choose hymns from this list you can copy and paste the text in to your Order of Service.
